Pre-Historic Metal is the upcoming studio album by the legendary Norwegian duo Darkthrone. Marking the 40th anniversary of the band's initial formation (originally as Black Death), the album is described by Fenriz as a return to a more direct, riff-heavy approach compared to their recent "airy" pacing.
The record is a "vast odyssey" through thrash, black, heavy, and doom metal, characterized by a punishing, "in-your-face" guitar presence and an organic sound reminiscent of the 1970s and '80s.
