Recorded at the height of Angola's liberation struggle, the album is a landmark of African music that blends Semba, Rumba, Merengue, and Bolero. David Zé was a symbol of independence whose music transformed popular entertainment into a medium for national identity and collective memory.

The 2026 reissue by the Jazzybelle label marks the first time this "hypnotic masterpiece" has been widely available in half a century. The songs are sung in Portuguese and local Angolan dialects, balancing rhythmic elegance with heavy political weight.
