Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers is the fifth studio album by American rapper Kendrick Lamar, released on May 13, 2022, through PGLang, Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records.
Serving as his final release with Top Dawg Entertainment, the album is a sprawling, deeply intimate double album that acts as a sonic therapy session. Following a five-year hiatus, Lamar treats the record as a platform to dismantle his "savior" complex, exploring heavy themes of generational trauma, infidelity, toxic masculinity, grief, and institutionalization. Produced by a varied team including Sounwave, J.LBS, Duval Timothy, and Beach Noise, the album moves away from traditional radio-friendly structures. Instead, it relies on minimalist, jarring piano chords, frantic drum loops, and orchestral arrangements.
