Following the tragic passing of Mother Love Bone frontman Andrew Wood, bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard formed Pearl Jam alongside lead guitarist Mike McCready, drummer Dave Krusen, and San Diego vocalist Eddie Vedder. Together, they created one of the definitive releases of the 1990s grunge explosion. The record matches dark, deeply personal narratives, dealing with themes of depression, suicide, loneliness, and social alienation, with an anthemic, arena-ready sound heavily influenced by classic 1970s rock.
