Opiate is the debut EP by American progressive metal band Tool, released on March 10, 1992, through Zoo Entertainment.
Released before their first full-length studio album, this six-track EP delivers a raw, aggressive introduction to the band's early alternative metal and grunge-adjacent sound. It features the classic original lineup of Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Adam Jones (guitar), Paul D'Amour (bass), and Danny Carey (drums). Recorded primarily at Sound City Studios with producer Sylvia Massy, the tracks are much shorter, faster, and more straightforward than the sprawling progressive epics the band would later become known for.
