Late Registration is the second studio album by American rapper and producer Kanye West, released on August 30, 2005, through Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records.
Building upon the massive success of his debut, West sought to expand his sonic palette by co-producing the album alongside American film score composer Jon Brion. This unique partnership resulted in a highly sophisticated, cinematic style often termed "orchestral hip-hop." The album heavily incorporates live string arrangements, brass sections, woodwinds, and eclectic instruments like the harpsichord and celesta, moving far beyond the traditional sample-heavy structures of early 2000s rap production.
