Vinyl Reissue
Got a Good Thing Goin' is the 1966 soul-jazz masterpiece by Hammond B3 organ dynamo Big John Patton. Blue Note Records is reissuing the record on July 3, 2026, as part of its highly acclaimed, audiophile Blue Note Tone Poet Series.
Commonly referred to by Blue Note as Patton's "soul jazz manifesto," the 5-song set serves as an explosive showcase for the deep musical rapport between Patton and legendary guitarist Grant Green. Green was a foundational pillar of Patton's sound, appearing on all of his early landmark Blue Note albums. On this particular session, the dynamic frontmen are backed by a powerhouse rhythm section consisting of Hugh Walker on drums and Richard Landrum on congas. The instrumentation provides a heavier, more driving Afro-Cuban rhythmic undercurrent than standard organ trios. The material seamlessly balances gritty, groove-heavy Patton-Green originals on the first side with reimagined, deep-fried jazz covers of contemporary pop and R&B hits on the second side.
