Be is the sixth studio album by American rapper Common, released on May 24, 2005, through Geffen Records and GOOD Music. Widely considered a masterpiece and a major career resurgence for Common, the album is almost entirely produced by a prime Kanye West, with iconic neo-soul legend J Dilla contributing two standout tracks ("Love Is..." and "It's Your World"). Be stands as a defining monument of the mid-2000s soul-sample hip-hop era. Moving away from the experimental nature of his previous album, Electric Circus, Common returned to his roots with street-smart poetry, socially conscious lyricism, and uplifting storytelling. The album earned four Grammy nominations and features memorable guest appearances from John Legend, Bilal, and the Last Poets.
