Released in 1992, A Blaze In The Northern Sky is the second studio album by Norwegian band Darkthrone. It marked a radical shift from the death metal of their debut to raw, lo-fi black metal, becoming a foundational blueprint for the genre's "second wave". Recorded at Creative Studios, it is the first installment of the band's influential "Unholy Trinity" of albums.
The album is characterized by its "frosty" atmosphere, cavernous production, and the transition of bassist Dag Nilsen, who left shortly after recording. It is famously dedicated to Euronymous of Mayhem.
