Everybody Swoons is described as a twinkling mix of indie rockers. It addresses themes related to the uncertainties of modern living. Lyrical themes on the record range from deeply personal reflections to fictional stories.
The album was written by Mark Waldoch, with some melodies and song ideas originating as far back as 10 years prior to the release. Some songs are tributes, such as the opener "Your Uncertain Shadow," written after the death of Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit, and "Nobody's Ghost," a tribute to Mimi Parker of Low.
