The 1971 album Harlem River Drive by the band of the same name was led by pianist Eddie Palmieri. It is a legendary Latin funk album that fused Latin soul with contemporary New York funk and jazz to create a sound that celebrated both black and Latin urban culture. It also served as a commentary on racial inequality in New York City. The album has since become a cult classic among collectors and rare groove DJs.
