Tract is a significant piece of musique concrète that serves as an uncompromising statement of political protest, or "agitprop music" (agitation propaganda). Mimaroğlu, a pupil of Edgar Varèse, dedicated the work to Nâzım Hikmet, a prominent Turkish revolutionary poet.
The composition is an elaborate audio collage created between 1972 and 1974 using electromagnetic tape manipulations. Mimaroğlu positioned the work as reflective of "New Left" ideals, advocating for freedom and criticizing Soviet authoritarianism despite using sources commonly associated with communism.
