Released on July 3, 2026, via the independent archival label Disciples (with European distribution via Kuroneko), this record serves as a companion piece to the critically acclaimed 2025 career-spanning compilation Heavy Combination.
Joseph Kamaru was a towering, revolutionary figure in post-colonial Kenyan culture, known for his politically conscious storytelling and unique musical versatility. Further Combinations unearths five rare archival gems spanning his multi-decade career. The tracks were selected by the label alongside Kamaru’s grandson, the contemporary Berlin-based sound artist KMRU. The entire record has been carefully remastered from original tape transfers and features expansive historical liner notes by Kenyan academic Maina wa Mũtonya. Sonically, the mini-album captures Kamaru’s signature, infectious blend of Kikuyu folk melodies, 1970s benga music, highlife guitar lines, and rubbery, driving funk-pop grooves.
