Buckaroo is the debut studio album by New York-based songwriter Katzin. The album uses the mythologized imagery of the American West—cowboys, vast deserts, and rolling plains—to explore the transition from adolescence to adulthood. To capture this specific atmosphere, Battle and producer Max Morgen recorded the project during a week-long isolation in Joshua Tree. The record is described as an electroacoustic collage featuring rolling drums, filigreed synthesizers, and guitars that shift between "a whisper and a thunder roll". One of the primary creative goals was to make the music sonically resemble the desert.
