Lucky Now is described as the "most mature and confident" work from Lande Hekt to date, following her previous releases Going To Hell and House Without a View. The album was recorded with producer Matthew Simms (of the band Wire) and draws heavily from 1980s twee-pop and jangle-pop influences like The Pastels and The Sundays. Lyrically, the record centers on themes of return—returning to joy, to her hometown of Exeter, and to parts of the self once left behind—while maintaining a more positive and grateful outlook than her earlier, more disillusioned works.
