.44 is the second EP by the Cardiff-based quintet Midding releasing almost exactly one year after their debut. he EP represents the band's evolution from a bedroom project into a fully functioning group. It is the first Midding release to feature live drums, marking a shift from the linear, programmed pulses of their earlier work toward a more dynamic and agile "in-room" sound. The title is an oblique reference to the ".44 Caliber Killer" (David Berkowitz) and his alleged ties to The Process Church of the Final Judgment. Reflecting this dark inspiration, the songs were recorded to tape to create a sense of claustrophobia, with lyrics exploring themes of cultism, serial killer fanaticism, depression, and eventual release. Musically, it blends accessible melodic confidence with churning spacerock and "automatic writing-derived" lyrics.
