A Day at the Races is the British rock band Queen's fifth studio album, originally released in December 1976. It was the band's first completely self-produced effort, with the title following suit from its predecessor, A Night at the Opera, both named after Marx Brothers films.
The album reached #1 in the UK, Japan, and the Netherlands, and peaked at #5 on the US Billboard 200, eventually achieving platinum status in the US. The album features a driving, purposeful hard rock sound, which some reviewers note is a bit tighter in its eccentricities compared to its predecessor. Key tracks include the singles "Somebody to Love," "Tie Your Mother Down," and "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy".
