The Confuser is the 25th solo studio album by legendary British art-rock musician Robyn Hitchcock, released digitally on July 24th, 2026, through Tiny Ghost Records.
The album's title is a playful riff on Nick Lowe's 2001 classic The Convincer, inspired by a loving nickname given to Hitchcock by his wife, singer-songwriter Emma Swift. Recorded in his adopted hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, the project features a premier backing band consisting of guitarist Jeremy Fetzer, bassist Todd Bolden, and drummer Eric Slick, alongside high-profile guest appearances from Gillian Welch and former Soft Boys bandmate Kimberly Rew. Musically, the record blends Lennonesque pop power with Hitchcock’s signature psychedelic whimsy, offering a sunny, ebullient exploration of aging, existential reflection, and the absurdities of the modern plane.
