(LP) Sleep - Volume One

Volume One is the debut studio album by the American stoner and doom metal pioneers Sleep, released in 1991 through the Tupelo Recording Company. Unlike the warm, weed-ian, stoner-rock anthems found on their later legendary releases like Sleep's Holy Mountain and Dopesmoker, this album features a much darker, bleak, and aggressive sound heavily rooted in sludgy doom metal. It is heavily influenced by early Melvins and Neurosis, driven by raw, phlegm-drenched screams, and it stands as the band's only album to feature original second guitarist Justin Marler before he left the group to become an Orthodox monk.
