Classics Vol. 1 (often stylized as CV1) is a transformative retrospective album by the iconic Berlin electronic duo Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary). Despite the name, this is not a standard "Greatest Hits" compilation. Instead, it is a creative "re-interpretation" of the duo's early legacy.
The Concept: The project began as an attempt to re-record tracks from their first two albums (Hello Mom! and Happy Birthday!). However, the duo found that simply re-creating the past felt stagnant. They instead chose to deconstruct fragments of those old tracks and reassemble them into entirely new compositions.
The album ranges from ambient soundscapes and epic songwriting to hard-hitting, "disturbingly danceable" club tracks. It features updated versions of fan favourites like "Edgar" and "Kill Bill," alongside new explorations like "Blockchain."
