The A Love Supreme (Monophonic Edition) is the first mono reissue of John Coltrane's 1964 masterwork in more than 50 years. The album celebrates the 60th anniversary of the landmark recording. While A Love Supreme was recorded at a time when stereo recording was becoming more common, the mono mix is considered by some to be the intended listening experience. For the new edition, renowned mastering engineer Ryan K. Smith faithfully remastered the audio from the original analog tapes. The original mono pressing was used as a reference to match the original mix by recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder.
