At age 18, the North Carolina-based producer and songwriter burst onto the scene with a complex, bombastic brand of electro-house. On Porter Robinson's new album, he dives within and created his most intimate work to date. After struggling with his style and sudden popularity at a young age, he had a strong desire to change his musical style which shows in 2014's Worlds. On SMILE! :D Robinson said he intended to create a work that was "no sincerity, all fun, an album that revels in absurdity for a world that rejects context", but eventually began to write about his emotions.
