Digitally remastered and expanded double vinyl LP edition of this 2003 album from singer/songwriter Jason Molina AKA Songs: Ohia. The hallmark of Magnolia Electric Co., is both a confluence of all he would create and a line in the sand to mark a shift in his songwriting approach. It was the last statement under his iconic Songs: Ohia moniker, and the moment before he began making new legends as Magnolia Electric Co. For the next 10 years. Now with Molina gone, his work gathers more weight and meaning. This expanded 10-year anniversary edition of Magnolia Electric Co. Features one never-before-released track plus many rarities.

The Magnolia Electric Co. is easily rated at 10. Jason Molina nailed it completely as these sad songs foreshadowed the man’s darkness with a frightening perspective.
There is a constant flow to the songs and bonus material with this deluxe release. Molina portrays a constant duality that seems so natural; cryptic yet poetic, at times it’s alt-country and then not, because his style is too full of grace and charm as it explores tension.
Magnolia Electric Co. is truly an original album and worth repeat listens. It sounds like literature and then not, instead like the rambling of 3am sobriety with a stranger’s words that rings multiple truths.
The following quote summarizes Molina’s talent, Lawrence Peters, a singer from Chicago, ‘He can get down into the basement covered in life’s emotions and heart sickness, then bring it all upstairs into the light. He can touch that darkness and that depth and that sorrow and that tenderness.’
