The music coming out of Detroit, such as The Stooges, MC5 and Alice Cooper, was a big influence on the members of UIC as not only did they listen to Detroit radio, but that was where they’d go to for concerts as it was quicker for them to get to the Motor City from Exeter than to Toronto. Their 2020 album and title track, “FM Hill,” refers to a spot the band members used to visit between Exeter and Dashwood where they could pick up Detroit radio stations in their cars.
